A new Makers & Artists Market was held on the weekend of 9-10 December at the Museum of Innocence in Mildura. The market featured a range of stalls including original photography, pottery, hand-crafted jewellery, metalwork, weaving, organic hand-dyed textiles, works on paper, paintings, printmaking, scultpure, handmade candles, illustrated books and handmade cards, and a range of handmade Christmas decorations. Visitors to the museum space were greeted with live music drifting out onto Deakin Avenue. Local Wentworth composer and musician, Merrilyn Air, performed some of her original music on piano and flute, a real treat for visitors to the market. Her CD, “River Tracks”, featuring original music interwoven with recordings of native birds from along the Darling River at Wentworth, was available at the market. Feedback from shoppers and curious members of the public, was very positive and encouraging, and many indicated they are looking forward to the next event.
