FLOW: music, meditation and imagery
Merrilyn Air, Bianca Spooner, Jennifer Gadsden, Jennifer Matthews and Jacquelyn Klose
Thursday 8 March, 2018 @ mim
This special event on International Women’s day is a collaboration of 5 women and includes the official launch of local Wentworth-based composer, Merrilyn Air’s new CD “Flow”. A portion of funds raised from CD sales will be donated to Chances for Children.
“FLOW” will commence with a deep-listening meditation led by Bianca Spooner, a HÜMÜH Clear Mind Buddhist monk who was born and raised in Sunraysia. This meditation aims to quiet the mind and body, allowing a greater focus and mindfulness free from mental distraction. The program will continue to unfold with a live performance by multi-instrumentalist Merrilyn Air supported by guest musicians, with a backdrop of projected images and video footage assembled by local visual artists Jennifer Matthews (“Terraforma”, a video production based on acrylic paintings and moulded glass artworks) and Jacquelyn Klose (“Water transpose Mirror – Summer Triangle”, a video installation exploring themes of polarized landscapes inspired by relocation from ocean and coastline to desert, red earth, salt lakes and inland sea). The whole evening will be a celebration of flow.
Merrilyn’s album “FLOW” was inspired by ambient sounds of Australian waterways set to deeply calming and relaxing musical textures. 18 months in the making, “FLOW” is a high quality musical artwork, coloured as an artist would paint, with rich musical layers. The CD “Flow” will be available for sale at the end of the performance, with $5 from every CD sold being donated to local charity Chances for Children.
